I am so glad Barack Obama will be the next president of the US. It goes to show that ordinary voters in the most powerful country in the world are prepared to reject the evils of racism, and embrace solidarity with their fellow voters in the context of equal rights and equal citizenship.
Excerpt from Some Malaysians have foolish ideas about the meaning of Obama's election

I couldn't read much past that line before I had to respond with the dark underside of what Obama's election portends for the United States. These things are likely to be lost on those who focus more on diversity than achievement, more on righting "wrongs" than on true freedom and elimination of racial privilege.

Barack Obama's election may show an increased slide toward socialism in the United States. Many in the United States have benefited handsomely from the unrealistic economic bubbles, created by government manipulation, such as free and too easy credit, spikes in housing values, overly high union negotiated pay and benefits, etc. Now as the economy tries to purge itself of these unsustainable manipulations, those who benefited, such as union workers, local governments through increased property taxes, real estate and stock market speculators, all begin to panic and demand more government intervention to sustain their unrealistic expectations of return, based on past rates of return that were unfounded on any kind of real measure of productivity.

So Obama's election comes at a point where the trend accelerates to looking to government handouts to take care of everyone, instead of personal initiative and productivity. Many commentators here are saying that the defeat of gay marriage in California (resulting in daiy handwringing in the media that supported Obama, and daily violent protests by the gays who didn't get their way, and constant stories of people trying to out-tolerate and out-celebrate each other in their support of the courts overturning the will of the voters) shows that the voters don't want so much Obamas leftish agenda as they were wanting to register a protest against the weakness of John McCain and his snubbing of the conservative base. Some think that maybe the republican party gave a weak performance in order to throw this hot potato in the lap of the democrats. Will the democrats do what is right for the economy and force the citizens to focus on productivity instead of entitlement to satisfy personal needs, or will the democrats think they've received a mandate to steer us further away from America's great past focused on rewarding personal achievement and instead hurtle us headlong into the rocks inhabited by the siren song of socialistic paternalistic redistribution of wealth.

Also Barack's election, inspite of clear rules requiring our President to be a natural born citizen and Baracks refusal to answer a law suit brought by a democrat former-attorney general over irregularities concerning his birth, and eye witness testimony from his own family that he was born in Kenya and not the United States, points to a sickening elitist attitude and continuation of "we don't care what the constitution says, we know better and we don't have to answer to anyone who thinks we don't". See http://www.obamacrimes.com/ for the details of how our liberal owned courts and political parties are ignoring these serious questions.

Upholding our constitution needs to be more important than trying to prove ourselves not to be racist. The various races in America have had equal rights to achieve for many decades, and for the last couple of generations have benefited because of white guilt leading to institutionalized racism such as affirmative action which gives unfair benefit today and in the future to those who were oppressed in the long distant past. Another disturbing trend towards increasing racism in America through special privileges for certain groups and political correctness penalties against those who disagree, we've already been seeing that the Obama campaign, and his supporters, have been quick to use accusations of racism (the race card) against anyone who questions his ideas and socialistic leanings. The race card is used as a method to stifle debate and dissent and dismiss those who question his socialist leanings. This will not lead to the solutions that America needs.

Recent tapes of Obama talking about the constitution came out in the days before the election, where Obama complained that the civil rights movement in the 60's didn't go far enough, it didn't go beyond creating equality. It got too focused on the court battles, and not enough on even more grass roots efforts, and didn't go far enough to change the constitution to support more redistribution of wealth! But the voters didn't seem to care. The drumbeat continued for more lurching and lumbering government interventions due to the recent gyrations of our heavily managed economy.

So far, Barack proposes millions of jobs in time for the next election, but are they things that add productivity or will they act as a drag on productivity through increased taxes? His ideas so far: more roads built by unionized contractors, more schools staffed with unionized teachers, more bailouts for heavily unionized industries. These are all things that will only increase the amount of taxes the government will need to confiscate from people who are actually productive. Remember government never generates productivity, it only redistributes by taking from the productive and handing the money to someone else. And it often does it in such a way as to entrench itself with those who are receiving the handouts. Given that all the industries Obama wants to increase support for are ones that are heavily unionized, this will serve only to increase union dues confiscated from workers, much of which is then spent supporting the election campaigns of democrat candidates. The real purpose of Obama's job growth proposal

To avoid this payback of unions for supporting democrat candidates being so nakedly obvious, our congress recently made a spectacle of first announcing a bailout for the auto industry was imminent, and then after the stock prices nearly doubled on automakers, they then announced the automakers had to come back and prove how they were going to be successful with the $25 billion they are asking for. The stocks plummeted. This was a wonderful opportunity for the politically connected to fleece investors from huge amounts of money as they played the market for all these stories were worth. But is anyone asking what makes congress, who has made such a mess of our economy and nation with bankrupt government programs, qualified to judge how the automakers will use the money? They are the ones that helped cause the real estate bubble by forcing banks to loan money to unqualified minority applicants in bad areas of town through things like "Community Reinvestment Act". The are the ones who support increased unemployment and bankrupting of businesses by supporting unions to block qualified non-union workers from being allowed to willingly take jobs for lower wages than the unions are demanding. How is this American?

Our constitution was designed to preserve the rewards of achievement, i.e. private property and freedom, for those who work hard. Individuals who produce must be protected from the envious who want to use the capricious machinations of governments to deny individuals their wants as they take away resources from the productive to give to those whose neediness is enshrined as paramount. Invariably, governments tend toward socialist ideals because their power is increased when there are increases in the confiscation of hard earned private property and freedom from those who achieve, to support those who claim entitlement.

In some former Soviet countries, for the first several years after the fall of the wall, they were glad to not be under the yoke of Soviet oppression and socialism. Free market reforms started to take place. But achievement is hard work, and some who weren't prepared to work hard, began to reminisce about the old communist days and handouts, and the swing began back towards socialism, centralized management and of the economy and the increase in demands for entitlements.

Let us hope that we can get back to the roots of personal achievement that allowed this country to truly grow. Let us hope against Obama's hope that there will not be more of the government interventions that have only deepend our economic woes.
